Right On Track
2012
Right On Track delves into the dynamics of human movement, particularly within the vicinity of the University of California, San Diego (UCSD). This work was the first time I explored the concept of dynamic canvases. I was deeply fascinated with the idea of presenting something unique and novel with each viewing. Much like the ever-changing nature of life itself, I was curious about visually capturing a moment in time without actually depicting the still life itself. The project was heavily influenced by Alexander Chen's Conductor, which utilized real-time data from New York City’s subway lines to create a musical and visual experience.
Right On Track derives its visual elements, including the color and size of circles, from data extracted from the UCSD shuttle website. These circles dynamically shift and move in synchronization with the actual positions of the moving buses, giving birth to a dynamic, ever-evolving work of art that pulsates with the rhythm of campus life and its transportation system.
